GPS FW 4.40 for the FR family

Hello Former Member,

any chance we might receive the latest gps fw soon-ish? :-). I would back my request with the fact that this should be a pretty important system update, as many of us (regardless F6 or FR945 owners) complained about the poor gps tracking in various conditions; it would be really nice to have at least the same level & care of component updates (not talking about features) as the F6 family. I'm also writing this as there has been (for example) a somehow big delay of the release of the Bl/BLE/ANT fw 5.04 between the 2 product lines, not to mention other patches...

Thanks,

Tudor

  • i would say core = similar service level at component patches - that means chipset updates; we lagged 3 weeks behind at the BT/BLE/ ANT 5.04 fw version. same goes when gps 4.10 was released. for some updates it might not be crucial but for some it is. plus the widgets of course.

regarding the 935 / f5 talk (and our wrong assumption that the 945 will get all the features of the f6 line) - those watches share the same fw version - it was even possible to update components from the fenix fw on the 935; so it is more or less the same watch with the same software functionalities (if i remember correctly at launch the fenix had some ski modes that nobody in the 935 family really missed), hence most of the users assumed the 935 is the plastic fenix. but at the fenix6 launch i was pretty surprised seeing all the goodies it came with - more datafields (we got those about 2 months after f6 was launched), glances etc. at that moment i (honestly) realised that the fenix would have been a better buy, but it was a bit too late :D.

my conclusion - it's pretty clear now that the outdoor division has either more development power / resources and they still focus on improving the fenix, while the 945 will just get eventually updated only with the necessary updates. i've been using garmins since 2011 and will definitely doing so, i'll just switch to the different product line as i feel i get better care, from a software point of view.
