Why is Recovery Heart Rate not saved?

Does anyone know why the recovery heart rate is not stored by Garmin? It shows up on my watch 2 minutes after I stop my exercise, but I don't see it anywhere saved. I thought at some point they would have saved this metric.

Just wondering why not, as it is considered yet another fitness indicator.

Thanks.

  • It's saved to the .fit file. Question is why doesn't Garmin show it.

  • If you want it saved in your .fit file, wait until the recovery heart rate is calculated/displayed before saving the workout file.  I don't believe that garmin will show it on garmin connect, but it can be seen in other programs.

  • I am too impatient to see the rest of my stats to wait the 2 minutes for recovery HR to show up. Grinning

  • What other programs will show this? I almost always wait for that number to be displayed as I'm cooling down, so it should be saved.

  • For example Fit File Repair Tool and Runalyze show recovery heart rate.

  • What is exactly the use of the recovery heart rate in the way it is implemented by garmin?

For recovery heart rate to be measured, you have to be in complete rest, according to the manual.

This means it is calculated after the cooling down. But in the cooling down my heart rate is already somewhat recoved.

So it calculated my recovery from a cooling down. Not that interesting, to be honest.

I've got an other "problem"/feature request send to garmin. In garmin connect you can see a table with laps of your workout. For every lap there is a column for average heart rate and maximum heart rate. But not for minimum heart rate.

If I do intervals, I get a lap for every fast interval and a lap for every rest period. There I want to see how for my heart rate drops during rest. That's more interesting than recovery heart rate after a cooling down.

Somehow I always get the feeling garmin doesn't have any employees who actually use garmin products for serious workouts. They are only looking to produce more data, but not more information. (data is just numbers, information is usefull numbers)

Isn't this exactly what you get when you analyse your hart-rate data for that portion of the work-out? If you like, you can also use overlays (e.g. pace) to get even more insights.

  • Yes, al data is there, but it is hard to get the information out of it.

Garmin already has a table with key figures per lap. Only lowest heart rate isn’t in the table,

Now I have to hover over the graph to find the point where my heart rate is lowest. It could be so much easier.
