No in fact it goes exactly to 50% then does something and failed. Is that 50% like downloading the map, and another 50% to copy it to watch or what.
I get the same n a 945, with a clean download folder it get to 50%, if I retry it gets to about 30%.
In the log I can see:

The strange thing is that it looks like it finished downloading the files from the servers and is trying to install on the watch when the error occur.

I think it's time Garmin did something about it really: the response from Support in the above thread is >4 years old, and - surprisingly - when one purchases & downloads maps via GE, they are downloaded to separate temporary destination under 'c:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\' - and actually promptly deleted once maps are successfully installed on device.
same here, it takes forever :( trying restart of the watch, so far the progress bar is at the letter "m" in "Loading maps..."
Today reinstalled with new Garmin Express and it went smoothly, terrible lag of yesterday disappeared.
Unfortunately during a ride I noticed 2-3 times screen went all white within 3 minutes for 15-20 sec each time, while still showing position market (I was in TrackBack). It this normal? Could it be that the next tile was slow to load?? Or yet another bug of this release?
