I have the same issue as well as my rhr’s not being read properly. My VO2 max os way off because I run hills and it is not taken into account on road runs... you have some serious work to do Garmin, we have spent a ton of money on these AND, I use the chest strap heart rate monitor with EVERY run!!!

  • You using the wrong (cheap) HR monitor belt from Garmin or not ?

I suppose you do. the most garmin watches with optical hr have this problem ! not correct registring your HR as well !

So buy the belt official belt belonging to this advice.

your watch have nice running statistics you miss without the belt as well.

  • The placement of your watch in the photo suggests you might be wearing it wrong. Have a look in the owner’s manual for correct positioning. If you are not wearing the watch correctly you’ll never get good readings from the wrist. Start with wearing the watch as recommended then begin troubleshooting problems.

The watch oHR has no bearing while I’m using the chest strap hr sensor and, it’s snuggly over the wrist bone as the manual says it should be. $500 of junk and excuses like this from Garmin...

If you’re referring to my rhr’s, well, got ya there too, I have a low of 39 while sleeping yet, that’s not the rhr as it should be, not the 44 it’s reporting...

Also, if you’re referring to the hills on the heart rate data, that’s my anaerobic workout and it should look like that. The numbers are where the problem is, quit automatically blaming the user...

    • P.s. you’re talking to a former Paramedic, using medical equipment is my one of my specialties...
  • it’s snuggly over the wrist bone as the manual says it should be

Umm no. Couple of fingers clear of the wrist bone if I remember correctly.

Apologies missed the bit about the strap being used for all three watches. But you did mention RHR and that comes from WHR.

  • I sense a lot of anger in your posts. You are not talking to Garmin here, you are talking to other Garmin users as this is primarily a user to user forum. Shouting on this forum is not going to help you a lot.

  • The broad (but not universal) consensus in the scientific community is that RHR should be taken as the lowest WAKING resting heart rate, not the lowest achieved overnight while sleeping.

Garmin is in line with this broad consensus.
