Forerunner 945 cannot connect to Google Nest Wifi

All, I've read all the posts here re: wifi problems with the Forerunner 945. My home wifi setup is a Google Nest Mesh Router. The Google Nest cannot run as an open network; you have to have a password. I don't want to change my wifi setup just to accommodate the 945. I just want to make sure I didn't miss anything obvious. I don't get an error code; I just get "incorrect password."  The first watch I bought didn't connect so I returned it. The second watch isn't connecting either. Bluetooth connection appears fine. Software on the watch is updated to version 4.4. Garmin Connect app is updated as well. I really want to use the Spotify function for the watch and I'd like it to connect via wifi at my home. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Do you have any special characters in the password? As much as you might not like to, if you do have other than alphanumeric characters in your password, try one without.

I haven't tried that yet. I did just hook up my old wifi router and that one connected. What's weird is that it also said "incorrect password" but then it connected a couple seconds later. I'm afraid the cause may be inherent to the way a mesh network operates. I'll keep playing around with it and let you know. If anyone else has any ideas, do let me know.

Just as an update for anyone who may find this thread. After I hooked up my old wifi router and using it to download music to Spotify, I switched back to my original wifi setup - Google Nest mesh network. I tried to get the watch to connect and it worked! I don't know what happened.

My 945 initially refused to connect to my Nest Wifi as well despite trying to setup using the phone app / garmin express and even the on watch setup. Finally after tryiing everything else and getting errors syncing, I tried restarting the watch and now it works like a charm.

So try turning it on and off again? :)

I tried that multiple times. The only time it worked for me is when I switched to a spare router, got my downloads done, and then switched back to the Nest. On a whim, I tried to connect via the Nest again and it worked. Been working ever since. For those that find this thread because their initial setup with the Google Nest didn't work, I'd say try turning the 945 on and off first. If that doesn't work, try a spare router, get it to work, then try the Nest again. There seems to be an initial pairing issue with the mesh network.
