Are the five buttons supposed to be mechanically the same?

In my fr945 the five buttons do not feel the same.. It s the "back" bottom-right one that seems to click twice (the first click does nothing as if i did not press the button and the second click as i push harder is an actual button click).

I read tons of discussion about button problems and I have a revision C.

Is it normal that the buttons are not the same mechanically or they should be identical?

  • I had the same problem with one button on my 920XT for 5 years. it was the start button which you seem to press different. But worked fine.

Same with this 945. the start button feels different in compare to the others. but works fine.

  • There is no official statement from Garmin about the buttons and their revisions.

Personally I think that the all the 5 buttons should have the same feedback, which was when my watch was new. After a few month there is bigger force needed to press 4 buttons and there is no click for 3 of them. In my opinion this is due to some design issue. Maybe some dust inside the buttons are causing the problem but for a flagship product this is more than strange.

  • Should be, but are not. I replaced my watch already for 3 times on warranty. Have Rev D now, but after week or two one button is again mushy... I don't know if replace again, because loose watch for over week and right now using it everyday.

Garmin really screwed up this in FR945.

  • My "UP" button has stopped to be clicky nearly after a week of usage. My "DOWN" button followed it after approx. one month later. However they both still provide the tactile response, though not as good as other buttons.

When any of the buttons become more mushy and it starts to bring mental pain using them, I soak my watches in a glass of warm (40-45°C) filtered water for 20 minutes and while they are soaked, I search them from mobile phone from time to time to make them vibrate. I believe that vibration of the watches body helps water to better get into micrometer gaps between the buttons and the body and dissolve any residues that managed to get there somehow. Then I take my watches out of the glass, and dry them with a towel and then I press all buttons several times, then I see that some tiny amount of water is pushed out of each button, and then I'm done.

  • I tried this cleaning but buttons are still hard to press, except the light button. It has the original feedback like new.

  • Sadly this is true, they are better after cleaning but they are never like other clicky buttons.

When my watches get old and will peacefully die, I will disassemble it to find out the exact reason

I just bought a forerunner 945, and I have the same issue with the back button. Did you find any fix or any problem with that button down the line?
