Using stuff which is not in controls and not in widgets

This is probably a stupid question..

Let's say I have something, for example the compass, which i chose NOT to put in the controls and also NOT to put in the widgets (I dont know if you can put the compass as a widget but never mind.. I think there s stuff you can choose to put in controls and/or in widgets).

Would I be able to access this something (compass) at all? Or should I first add it to controls or widgets and then access it?

I m asking that (as you probably already understood) because there are functionalities, among which the compass, which i very rarely use. So I dont want them in my way in the controls.. But the day i want to use them, I d rather avoid having to adding them to controls, using them and then deleting them from controls again.

Hope was not so stupid Slight smile

Thank you very much

  • Wanting to keep a clean and uncluttered look to your watch isn't stupid.

You can access the widget loop from either the down button or the up button, so 2 widgets are available with a single press, or 4 with a double press. The ABC (Altimeter Barometer Compass) is a multifunction widget - if ordered your widgets so that ABC in the middle of the widget loop, your favorite widgets are still readily available, but the ABC is there when you need it.

If this doesn't work for you, an alternative is that the compass rose is a datafield available within activities. You could create a custom activity with just the compass rose as the only datafield for those times you need it. So you could still access it, but it wouldn't be cluttering up your widget loop.

    Thx mcalista

Actually I was trying to do something else.

Say that compass is neither in my controls nor in my widgets: what would I need to do in order to have a look at the compass?

According to the knowledge I have so far, I would need to

1 add compass either to controls or to widgets

    2 open it

3 remove it from controls or widgets (depending on what i added it to) in order to go back to initial state

    Is there a quicker way?

  • Yes, you would need to add it to your controls or widgets (and remove it while it was done). This is not quick.

Which is why I suggested creating Compass as an custom activity (like Run, Bike, Walk, etc) instead.

  • If you go that way, I believe you'll have to actually start an activity, otherwise the top part of the compass will be constantly hidden by that pesky options menu. I'd also turn GPS off for the custom profile.

  • You want to use thinks wich you choose to made inaccessible via User Interface. This will most times not work.
Some things can be put on hotkeys, but this are only things normally not available as a widget.

If you want something accessible wich you don't use a lot, just put it in the middle of controls wheel (light button) or widgets (up-down) so it takes you the most clicks to get there.

  • if you open an activity and don't start it, you can scroll through the pages via up-down. If you scroll, it takes a while for the options menu to reappear again.

Creating custom activities may work for something like compass, but not for the most other things wich are widgets.
