If you on your Feet, but not choose the Run Mode..?

Is there a mode which are used by the most?

Asking also because of this Vo2Max thing -

you choose TrailRun, Walk, Hike?

have a few scenarios, beside a normal Run:

- im in a mixed of running/hiking

- im just hiking in the alps

- quickly walk in town

Whats the best to choose ... or should i just dont care ;)

Thank You!

  • That sounds like a hike to me?

  • I don’t care. If I want to record an ‘on foot’ activity I’ve always used just Run. I take the view that all planned exercise contributes to VO2. In practice that might mean my estimated VO2max is a point or two below what might be achieved in a lab test but in reality it’s hovered around high to mid-40s for a number of years.

  • The only problem with that approach is that the projected Race times will be depressed.  I like to use those (and the recorded Vo2Max) as a fitness barometer so it's best to measure only in similar conditions (road running for road races).

I like the fact Garmin ignores trail running for example in Vo2Max measurements, it's surprisingly insightful for this kind of stuff on their watches.
