Additional downloadable cross-training training plans (HIIT + Trailrunning) - Garmin or 3rd Party Vendors

I typically weight train 3-4 days a week and run 2-3. I would like to progress my overall fitness level by using a structured, progressive training plan. Garmin's workouts available through Garmin Connect do not form a deep enough base to be a structured training plan, the "coach" plans are all running focused, and the other 3rd party vendors (trainingpeaks.com, trainasone.com) are all long duration cardio focused as well. I would like a plan that mirrors my relative mix of activities but in a progressive, calendared way that I can download to my training calendar and then my watch to guide my workouts.

Does Garmin or any 3rd party vendor offer such a plan? I have searched the forum but not found anyone discussing a similar issue.

  • Take a look at creating a Strength Workout in the phone app. You can potentially use the calendar functionality to schedule these progressively.

  • I think it is about that a platform should set an adapting training plan which contains running AND other excercises/disciplines.

Something like Garmin Coach training plans but Garmin Coach does not contain trainings other than running (in one plan).

Thanks - I've created my own workouts before for one-off workouts. I would like to leverage some coach-created training plans that will push me out of my comfort zone and also include periodization and progression. If necessary, I can go the route of purchasing a plan that doesn't organically integrate with Garmin and inputting workouts one-by-one but I'd love to avoid that manual step if possible.

Agreed- that would be ideal and, depending on how customizable they were based on base stats (e.g., 1RM Bench Press, 1RM back squat, 1RM hang clean, 400m shuttle run time, 5 mile tempo run time, etc.) you could imagine a progressive and adaptive coaching plan to both build strength and endurance. Garmin Connect Web any chance your team is working on something like this?

  • I've been looking for a training plan too and none exist.

Even putting in simple programs like Strong lifts 5x5, Madcow, Wendler 531, etc that allow us to enter our current 1rm and train from there would be awesome. Having the ability to select "deload week" to lower weights automatically doesn't seem hard (it's all just set percentages).

With strength being such an important aspect of any sport at a high level, I'm surprised Garmin doesn't attempt to cater to this.

Entering 1rm would also potentially allow garmin to determine recovery time a lot better.. though I'm not sure they have built the algorithms for those physiological measurements. This would be game changing stuff.
