FR 945 successor with Sapphire please.

Dear Garmin, can you please offer the next generation FR models with sapphire glass?? Please!

I have had a Casio ProTrek watch over 15 years, and the glass was still as the watch was bought yesterday. Last year I bought a Samsung S9+ with gorilla glass, within 2 days scratches on it. It was under the expectation that gorilla glass is supposed to be very scratch resistant, but it is not ...apparently. The third day I bought  a protector.

Again, dear Garmin, I'm sure you should understand that a 500+ Euro costing watch should not require a screen protector.

Thanks in advance.

  • Yep, glass-protectors rock.

I'd prefer to have a sapphire crystal, but a protector is really a very close 2nd, IMO/IME.
Plus, if you scratch it (sapphire is NOT scratch-proof, and can shatter, if abused enough), you can peel it off, and put a new one on, and you're out maybe $3 or so!  ;-]

so if one would want to sapphire version, it might be good idea to say that, and not "945 successor with Sapphire".

The OP clearly stated what he suggested with a follow up text that many replied to afterward.  If it doesn't pertain to you, why comment and why do I even need to point this out to you.

And then there would be 4 versions already and where do we set the limit?

"We" wouldn't have to worry about anything you speculate. That would be Garmin's decision if there would be different versions to choose from.

  • The OP clearly stated
please offer the next generation FR models with sapphire glass

Still it's not clear. You can argue both ways but saying that it's clear. No it isn't. I think the next model with sapphire is more easier version as he said what I quoted, not "please offer the next generation FR models with versions having sapphire glass". And also the next point about the Sports & Fitness unit and SKUs.

That would be Garmin's decision if there would be different versions to choose from.

And by history we can see that having multiple little differences and SKUs is something that the Outdoor recreation unit does with Fenix, not something that the Sports & Fitness unit has done with FR.

But that's my point and you can disagree and then we agree to disagree.

  • And if your point is something to do with "models" being plural, I think it just means X55 models, not like 955 models.

  • I have my 945 from 12 months, without any protection and with a hardly use 24/7, and  the screen is like new!!  I like gorilla glass also for its brightness and plese Garmin don't change this !!

I don't know how it could be any clearer than:

My point is NOT to make all FR's more expensive, but why not offering the FR245 successor in TWO options: One for those that want Gorilla glass and one that would like to have a more scratch resistant sapphire glass
  • That quote is not from the original post. I think we were talking about it, which I criticized and then after that started to talk about that multiple SKU problem what we haven't seen much in Sports & Fitness watches. Only thing was music at some point, but now that's bundled always. Still not seeing sapphire version happening and solution exists, buy Fenx.

That quote is not from the original post.

I know what the original post said.  I then responded after the OP's second post with:

The OP isn't asking for all the successors to the 945 to come with sapphire glass.

For some reason yet to be explained, you replied to me with:

Not exactly, but there hasn't been any versions of Forerunners based on having sapphire glass or not, so if one would want to sapphire version, it might be good idea to say that, and not "945 successor with Sapphire".

    I replied back to you:

The OP clearly stated what he suggested with a follow up text that many replied to afterward.  If it doesn't pertain to you, why comment and why do I even need to point this out to you.

So, it's been pointed out to you that the OP had a 2nd post with his proposal and that any comments prior to that are obsolete and you still replied with:

Still it's not clear. You can argue both ways but saying that it's clear. No it isn't

I replied back to you and said that I didn't think the OP could be any clearer.  Now you say that's not what the OP said in his original post.  No sh*t!  Are you just messing with me or do you have a comprehension problem?  My 6 yr old granddaughter is here and she's following the thread.  I don't know why this is such a difficult hurdle for you to overcome.

I think we were talking about it, which I criticized and then after that started to talk about that multiple SKU problem what we haven't seen much in Sports & Fitness watches. Only thing was music at some point, but now that's bundled always

No one was talking about this.  This is something you started rambling on about. Maybe you should read this thread again from the beginning to the end and follow the sequence of post.  Don't try and force a square peg into a round hole.  Let the pieces fall in place.

  • Why is this subject still going on? I gave the answer in the first reply to the OP. If you want sapphire glass, buy a Fenix.

  • Thank you all for your answers. I was hoping that an official GARMIN representative was going to answer me. I fully understand that everyone is having their own meaning about what is the best choice, very likely the model that YOU have bought.

We'll see what the future will bring to us.

    Regards.
