Compass readings all over the place

Trying to use the 945 map features, but compass readings are erratic, making the maps dance around on he screen.
South and North seem to be a interchangeable concept...

Have tried to calibrate the compass, with sporadic success.
When it does complete calibration the results have not improved.

Anyone else experiencing problem and found solutions?

Calibrating the compass normally resolves this problem.

Perhaps try taking the watch off while calibrating to allow you to more easily turn the watch on every axis while calibrating?

Also, calibrate out in the open, well away from any potential electromagnetic source.

Tried many times in all kinds of environments.
Always comes back with inconsistent readings.

Yeah, calibration in optimal conditions is not resolving the issue, probably time to contact Garmin Support.

Is the compass widget (not in an activity) performing ok?

Generally you get a better response contact Garmin Support over the phone than online.
