Help potential lost or stolen garmin 945 forerunner

Dear Garmin community,

I bought my Garmin 945 a month ago - and now i've either misplaced it at home or it's been stolen in the gym.

The last time I remember wearing it was on 13/3/20 - oddly on that day there was a strange activity I do not recognise on a road i've never been to (see image attached)

This made me believe it was stolen.

However, when I go into Garmin Connect it says 'last synced 31/3/20'...according to the Garmin website it says if it has synced it means my phone was near the watch.

I'm confused which to believe the one off activity on 13/3/20 or the Garmin connect sync 31/3/20? can someone please advise.

I was curious if the iphone (if i run with Strava) can cause Garmin connect to show 'as synced'....it's an odd scenario but I would appreciate the communities advice.....many thanks in advance

  • If the phone and the watch get in range of each other, it's not strange at all if they sync even if you are not in an activity. But as to saying that it's been synced if it's not, I do not believe so. I believe your watch and phone have been close to each other on March 31st.

Have you tried the option "Find My Device" in Garmin Connect on your iPhone, choose your FR945 device and scroll to the bottom - you should find the choice there. If it's misplaced at home (and there is still battery) the watch should start to chime.

  • What data did it sync between the date you lost it and the date it synced.

I'd agree too, you must have been close to the watch on the date it last synced nothing to do with strava.

can you check you google locations for the time it synced to establish where you were roughly?

  • Just wondering if the new "owner" of your watch paired it with their own phone, and that was when the activity synced.

You might report this to the police, together with a screenshot of the activity. (effectively giving them the address of the finder/thief/fence/unwitting 2nd hand purchaser).

  • If they had paired it with their own phone then it wouldn't have synced to the original phone too.

  • If it disappeared at your gym, could it be that it synced using your phone while you and the person with it were both at the gym?

It might provide a timeline to help ID who has it.  And the map you posted might help narrow it down, being a person at the gym same time as you who may live near where the GPS trace was recorded.  The trace looks to be as it could be someone in that area that started a recording but didn't move around that much - like someone that lived in the building where the green marker is.

  • Hi all sorry for the late replies...thank you very much for your time and comments

    All have been very helpful.

Police as expected came back and said nothing can be done and gave me a police report.

Sadly despite a sync no activity was recorded from 15/3/20 to present.

I've turned my house upside down and no sign of the watch, if it is still here the battery is 100% dead so no chnace of using 'find my garmin'

Fingers crossed it may turn up if not insurance it is.

    Thanks again
