Forerunner 945 did not track my running (does not find gps) Version 4.2

Does anyone have the same problem?
Since a week my forerunner 945 did not find a gps signal and therefore it did not track my running route.

Moreover, it seems that the measured distance was also not correct.

Software Version: 4.2

GPS version 2.9

WiFi version:2.6

  • Thx, I am gonna try it. But I hope this is only a temporary solution.

  • Also check the status of your CPE by going to Settings, System, About, and scrolling through until you see the CPE status.

If you are still having problems contact Garmin Support.

  • hello Former Member,

I would also point out again to the poor / inconsisten gps performance of the watch / chipset / whatever; I ran the regular parkrun with a friend, who is using a fenix 6 pro; please have a look at:

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4668452832 - my activity

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4668478706 - peter's activity

here's a snippet of the bad part:

we were both using a workout that we started together (based on lap press button, started about 1km after the Ignore section marked in the screenshot above) and after 6-7 1km repeats, our watches started to get out of sync - ending with a difference of 100m; plus jumpy pace, etc. any suggestions? i would also point out that some runs are good - some are bad but this is above all :-).

    thanks,

    tudor

  • Thank you for contributing but this thread was originally about not acquiring signal at all. I don't meant to quiet any discussions, but rather I would ask that we try to stay on topic thread by thread.

That being said, I cannot determine everything that factors into GPS performance from the two links, such as Wrist placement, GPS settings, SW versions and running patterns. These can all impact GPS performance. Also, it appears from the map provided that the most variance on that run was under heavy tree cover which is unfortunately to be expected.

Lastly, from the numbers you provided, if you ran 1 KM repeats together 7 times and were off by 100 meters at the end, this would mean those devices recorded at nearly 99% accuracy (to one another, not a measured course) which would meet our expectations. Again, all of the earlier settings mentioned plus the different antenna designed between the fenix 6 series and the 945 can explain these differences.

  • Hello and thanks for the fast reply. I though that instead of opening another thread, as this is somehow gps related, to jump in. So - some explanations:

Actually there are some trees - but it's pretty much open space. The map appears to be green, but the trees are currently cut and pretty much branch and leaves-less. If you'll check out these other runs with the 945:

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4650230031 or this run https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4619293416 or

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4597266557

you'll see that tracking was way better. And between the runs nothing happened - watch is on the same wrist while I try to maintain a good arm position, the sky was pretty clear (we don't have fog or similar things). My run pattern is pretty much consistent - unfortunately I can't the same thing about the way my 945 tracks and i raised this before as well -the 935 produced better tracks and I think I'm not the only one complaining about this issue here on the forums.

It's also clear to me that 100m is an acceptable margin - that's just the overall difference but during the run that varied pretty much - some laps were shorter for me and during some my watch took the lead.

Don't misunderstand me, overall I'm pretty pleased with the device but it's these things like accuracy and inconsistency that are sometimes bothering me and I wish the gps developers would do a bit more to get better accuracy from the Sony chipset.

    Thanks,

    Tudor

  • I did a chat Yesterday again with the support. He recommend a hard rest. I did it. And now I get a fix in a minute. It is okay but comparted with my fenix or the fr245 it is not okay.

I think Garmin has to solve it.

  • Mine says "current" -- is that what we should expect?
