How to Verify GPS Distance

Over the past couple weeks I have been trying to compare the FR945 and the Fenix 6 Pro to decide which I wanted to keep.  For HR I compared by doing runs wearing both and using An HR-Run strap.  After doing a run using only WHR, then 2 where the strap was paired with each in turn I determines in my case the FR945 was pretty much as accurate as using the strap while the F6 seemed to lag a lot and even though HR averages were similar to the FR945, the time in zones was way off. For example on one 40 minute run they differed by 3 minutes between zones 3 and 4.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to determine which has the more accurate GPS.  On every run the F6 records shorter distances, and when you consider that on a 5 mile run they were different by .1 mile that seems unacceptable.  When you combi e the distance variances with the HR it seems like all the advanced metrics would be way off.  I can see it just in the training status and load for runs.

So what is the best way to determine which device is actually recording the correct distance?

  • Hi,

you could either run on a track or run an official race. On a track, really do several laps because with my 945, the first laps are always very accurate.
Or, you could also try the course of an official race or part of it.

I sent back my F6 Pro after comparison with the FR945 because of this problem with the distance. FR 945 very exactly, distance fits with the track (max 100m less in 15 km, F6 often - 1km with same settings). No regrets with the FR, lighter and offers nearly same like F6 To estimate difference Strava allows to rectify this
