FR 945 - GPS Version 0.00

Hi All,

Went for a run today, and the GPS didn't lock. Upon returning home found that the GPS version on the watch is showing 0.00. From threads from other devices it seems that an autoupdate failed so I probably need to reinstall the GPS firmware.

Can anyone point me to instructions on where to get just the GPS firmware as a download? I tried to install beta 4.06 hoping that would also update the firmware but it didn't work (possible I"m on the Asia version?).

Just an update on this one. Support couldn't fix the problem, but they are sending out a replacement and I have to send the old one back. Pretty happy with the service and quick offer to send the new…

What files do you have in the Garmin\RemoteSW directory?

Thanks for the reply.

My RemoteSW directory contains a CPE.BIN file which is 62kb. Also, CPE says current when I go to the about section on the watch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I recommend that you connect your device to Garmin Express on a PC or a laptop. Hopefully, it will re download the GPS firmware again.

Thanks just tried that but no luck. It did seem to update maps though.

Is there any way to trick Garmin express into doing an update?

Searching "GPS Version 0.00" across all Garmin subforums shows several devices where this occurs. I assume you restarted your watch?

Yep restarted several times now. I saw some threads where that fixed it but hasn't done anything one mine unfortunately...

You might have to do a hard reset to get back the GPS Firmware

Just did a hard reset (I assume this is the one through the menu?) and it did something.

RemoteSW folder now has a file gup3107.gcd in it - is this the GPS firmware?

Watch still showing 0.00 as the GPS version... And doesn't get any lock...

There are a few types of reset

Resetting All Default Settings. This deletes all user-entered information and activity history. If you have set up a Garmin Pay wallet, restoring default settings also deletes the wallet from your device.

If you mean „restore to factory settings“ from the watch menu that might work. I would rather go through the procedure of a hard reset. You can find the procedure with Google search. I can only link to the german version that might not be useful for you due to your language. Good luck, that should fix your watch unless you have corrupted firmware or a hardware fault.
