Garmin Forerunner 955 Status

What is the latest timing expectation for the Garmin Forerunner 955? I’m trying to hold off replacing my 935 and am getting anxious.

It used to be 3 years, but now it has been more like two years.

Unless your 935 is at death's door, just wait. I had a 935 and now have a 945, and you really aren't missing that much. Some of the new stuff is cool, but in no way worth the steep upgrade price…

I agree, the 945 screen is small, it gives the illusion of larger size with the big bezel.

I'm not sold on LTE, but I'd upgrade my 945 to a 955 if the screen saw a sizeable increase.

Yes there is a solar fenix. Most likely another solar watch. I imagine we will see the FCC application right before when the 955LTE is coming. My guess is still early 2021.

Solar or not, the question is really, who needs this battery life? It is also clear that an upgrade has to be bought again at the UVP. I'm also more likely to bet on an update at Fenix. But it will probably be minimal.

Yeah, it occurred to me the Fenix tends to get yearly updates, and the Forerunners are every other year. So I'm going to call it now - Fenix 6 Plus Solar. Anyone want to take bets? :-D

But only solar? That would be really little and a facelift would hardly be worth it. Maybe a colour display?

IDK - the display is already color, kind of... They upgrade the display too much, the battery drain gets too high (exhibit A: Apple Watch). I'd imagine a bigger watch face with smaller/no bezel, LTE, more metrics, etc... the Plus watches have always been incremental upgrades, so I wouldn't expect more than that. But the solar tech would almost certainly be better. It was a little lame with the first edition.

This may be the Instinct Solar. The 945 preceded the Fenix 6 by a few months, but the Instinct is older yet.

Yep, looks like several Instinct/Fenix solar watches. imo this seals the deal for the 955 not coming this year. Fenix 7/955 coming spring 2021. Makes sense given that all tris/sports are being cancelled right now. 655 will come this fall.
