SW 4.10: Is your battery drain issue resolved? (Poll)

  • Just out of curiosity:

Did anyone who does not use any Music functions at all, actually never ever touching that menu have any battery drain? As I consider the Music functionality on the watch utterly useless and silly, I never fiddled with it. And so far, my battery never showed any unexpected discharges.

So I really wonder, if this specific issue is isolated to the Music subsystem on the watch or if it also affects users like me who do not care at all about the Music functions.

  • I think that we have different battery drain issues and music provider is only one of them. One fix will help someone, but will not change anything for others.

  • Hi, as stated below, I suspect Music can be the source of many battery issues. I’ve been experiencing excellent battery life since I removed all the Music providers and just accepted that Music on this device is a no no...

  • Yes. The battery drains at a rate of approx. 5% per 24 hrs which isn't that bad I would say (pulse ox disabled; of course the the battery drains at higher rate during workouts). With sw 3.30 it was approx. 0.3% / hr. After the sw 3.90 update it was in the range of 0.6 - 0.8%/ hr. Someone may say that it still wasn't that bad, but few months ago I had my watch replaced after just 2 weeks of using it due to a major battery flaw (I had to charge it every day) so I am a bit paranoid.

  • I've had just temporary watch battery drain issues - cant event remember when - it was so long time ago.

But now I am experiencing phone battery drain - 5% per h when GCM bluetooth is on, but only 1,5 % per h when it is off. It looks its been like that since the latest BT stack upgrade. Phone is Xperia XZ1 Compact on the latest firmware (Android 9).

Efficiency of the battery drain fix: 28%. Battery drain issue was fixed for every fourth. But three from fourth still are waiting for the fix.

Former Member What is next? Will you continue to work under the issue for others 72%?

  • 0.245%/hr (5.87%/day). For me it's back to normal.

  • Final update...seems good:

I'm at .17%/hr at 95% remaining ...seems so far lower than 3.3. Here are my settings in case they help anyone:

    1) Wifi = off

    2) Garmin pay = on

    3) All day PulseOx = off

    4) Activity PulseOx = off

    4) Backlight = always off

    5) Sounds = off

    6) Vibration = on

    7) Smart notifications = on

    8) TrueUp = off

    9) Activity tracking = on

    10) Widgets = Notifications, Weather, Calendar, Stress, PulseOx, Heart Rate, Performance, Training Status, Battery Monitor

    11) Music Providers = Control Phone

Running a test for the next few weeks with no activities.

    Update: .277%/hr at 30% remaining

    Update: .285%/hr at 20% remaining

    Update: .286%/hr at 10% remaining

  • Wicked. Out of a sudden, with no settings changed or anything new the battery totally depleted tonight from approx 65% to 0%. PulseOx was on in Sleep Tracking Mode, but this never was an issue.

It seems the problem is not only related to the music subsystem, as I do not use it at all. Seems like some internal process in the SW fails to properly go into deep sleep and while remaining active, drains the battery. Requires more investigation.

  • 4.10 did or didn't fix anything with my watch, but it was when I found out that turning off Wifi syncing drastically improved my battery life. I was getting 1.6-3.3% drain per hour with Wifi on. After turning it off, 0.2-0.7%. I went from two and a half days of battery to nearly six days. That was maybe three weeks ago?

I'm about ready for another charge as of this writing, and this time, I'm going to include Pulse-Ox (all-day, night, and the widget) as I have it completely turned off due to it being a massive battery hog the compounded the previous issues.
