Heart rate and accelerometers stopped working

The optical heart rate sensor and accelerometer appear to have stopped working on my Forerunner. If I perform a soft reset on the watch, the optical heart rate will start working again but it stops within an hour. I can tell from the heart rate graph in the Garmin Connect app that it's cutting out. It definitely isn't just failing to read – I can look at the watch on my wrist and the green light does not illuminate. It also isn't tracking steps throughout the day. And when I record a run, neither heart rate monitor nor cadence are recorded.

I recently updated my watch, the Firmware version is 4.00 (17bdab6) – I've also installed the most recent Sensor Hub update. If I connect an ANT+ sensor, I am able to get heart rate readings. I don't have any widgets installed on the watch. Has anyone else had this issue and know of a solution?

Thanks!

Kyle

  • It's possible a file has gone corrupt.  It wouldn't hurt if you try the 4.06 beta to rewrite the files.  No guarantees, but like I said, it wouldn't hurt and you can always revert back to 4.00.

  • Thanks Tess. I tried updating to 4.06 and that doesn't seem to have made a difference, unfortunately! I've emailed Garmin support to see if it could be a hardware issue. The watch is less than a month old, so I suppose it could be a production issue.

  • Same error for me (no lights and versions are 0.00 in the system). but after few hours everything worked again. And since the error randomly appears.

Hard reboot the watch or plug it to Garmin express with a sensor reinstallation seems to correct the error temporarily.

I emailed Garmin too, I suspect an update doing it because my HRM run sensor is affected by a new error in the same time (battery drain).

I have the same problem.. since i update my watch to version 4.7 the heartrate sensor didnt work well, the green light does not iluminate.. how its a hard ware error or just software error?

  • since i update my watch to version 4.7

The last FW release is 4.40.  If I hard restart doesn't solve it you may have a corrupt file.  Have you tried the new beta 4.87?

  • Not for APAC. Ref https://www.garmin.co.in/products/wearables/forerunner-945-black/#updateTab
