Garmin Express required for music files?

Do I have to use Garmin Express to load music files onto my watch, or can I use File Explorer or other Windows applications? Can I have deeper folders within the Music/Media folder, or do all the files have to be in the root of the folder?

What I'd REALLY like to do is tell Amazon Music that my music library is located on my watch and have it download selected songs directly to my watch. But I don't even know if it's possible.

Thoughts? Comments?

You can certainly transfer files over via Explorer. Haven't experimented with deeper folders (although there are folders for podcasts, audiobooks, etc, so probably yes) or with Amazon music.
