Product suggestions: you

I've got a few suggestions based on the last week's workouts.

First, I'm using a separate app to track my workouts. Why? Well, the biggest reason is that I can create an exercise. I'm not limited to a drop-down list of activities. I would much rather use my watch than carry my cell phone to the gym. So my suggestion would be to be able to add to the list of exercises.

Second, I'm using Coach to prepare for a half marathon. The adaptive plans it creates is far more flexible than using the traditional plans. You can tell it which days you're available and when the race is. The latter workouts are modified based on the earlier workouts.

My problem is that if I successfully complete my upcoming half marathon, if I'd like to prepare for a marathon in the fall. But the Coach doesn't have adaptive plans for marathons. Next year I'm thinking about a Spartan Trifecta, but there are no plans for obstacle races. I'm also thinking long term about ultras and triathlons. No adaptive plans for those, either.

Come on Garmin, get with the program.

One possibility would be to open up adaptive plan creation. Let coaches create plans and sell them through the store. I know I'd pay a reasonable amount for the convenience of an adaptive plan on my wrist.

  • You can indeed create a workout. Probably the easiest way is to copy the generic "Cardio" and rename it. If you scroll down the list, you will get to the green Add Activity+ listing

Garmin Coach started last year with 5K and 10K plans . The half marathon is a more recent addition. I have no idea what else might be in the pipeline.

  • In the Strength workout, you can add individual exercises. But they must be chosen from a list of exercises. A text field isn't available.

Generally a strength workout consists of multiple exercises, each with a certain number of trips and a certain weight.
