I'm a medium intensity swimmer and was hoping to get a swim watch to track workouts. Spouse got me the 945 for Christmas and I've been trying to make it work. I've always struggled with the accuracy of the distance but recently noticed that it is way off.
I do the same workout every time I hit the pool. The pool is 25m and the distance is accurately set in the settings. My workout is always a 3100m endurance IM with no rests doing flip turns on each wall. Now I realize that a flip turn on breaststroke isn't regulation, but flip turns are just convent. Here are my stroke transitions for the 3100 meters
- 25 back, 25 bréast, 50 free
- 50 back, 50 bréast, 50 free
- 75 back, 75 bréast, 50 free
- 100 back, 100 bréast, 100 free
- 125 back, 125 bréast, 100 free
- 150 back, 150 bréast, 150 free
- 150 back, 150 bréast, 150 free
- 125 back, 125 bréast, 100 free
- 100 back, 100 bréast, 100 free
- 75 back, 75 bréast, 50 free
- 50 back, 50 bréast, 50 free
- 25 back, 25 bréast, 50 free
I complete the set with no rests in between 55-58 minutes depending on how I feel that day.
When I looked at the report in connect I saw that there seemed to be 5 rests logged that never happened in my swim. The distance logged was 2850m instead of 3100m. Overall, I've noticed that a fair portion of my swims come out a 25 over / under even without "phantom rests" showing up in the log.
I've also noticed that almost all my backstroke resisters as breaststroke.
My underwaters are never that extreme. I usually have 10m underwaters in breaststroke and between 5-7m underwaters in back/free depending on how winded I am in the swim.

Questions:
- Is my 945 buggy, or in need of RMA?
- Is a ~10% drift like this in swimming considered "acceptable"?
- Would turning off stroke detect help?
- Would turning on/off other features help?
Note: Garmin forbids the use of the shortened word "b r e a s t" for breaststroke, so I've used accented letters "bréast". Apologies on the confusion.
