CES 2020, no more promised features for Forerunner 945 (a missed opportunity)

Now its CES 2020. Its winter and a lot of the promised things (for fall 2019!) are not there.

Where are workout videos?
Where is Widget Glance?
Where is Power Management?
Where is Map Themes?

Broken promises, lost trust.

I think, Forerunner 945 was never ment to be on par with Fenix lineup, despite what was said.

  • Where has Garmin promised these features?

  • On Facebook when they where asked.
Ill check if I can find some of it.

Also, I don't believe Media did make those updates up but was told that it was "planned"

  • CES isn't typically a place where adding a new feature to a device is announced.  New devices, yes.  A new feature, probably not.  Unless it would be release during CES.

  • Anyway it's a pity we don't have the features...

    Disappointed

  • We are still waiting.

  • I don't expect them to announce new features. I said CES is a time marker wich makes it unrealistic to expect them to add the features.

If one bought the FR945 because he likes the form factor over the F6 believing it will be on par feature wise, he got a big finger.
Its symptomatic now. Buggy software was always normal on Garmin devices. But now are features missing or broken on a lot of devices and what happens? Nothing. (especially for FR945 customers).

Its winter and Treadmill bug still isn't solved completely. Its winter and Skiing isn't working. At least our OHR is working, that's the only thing we are in advance of F6 lineup.

  • You guys are funny! You buy a product with the features of the product clearly visible on the box and homepage. Nearly half a year later, the same company introduces a more expensive product with more features. Now you expect that all those features will also be available on the cheaper older device?

It's super awesome that Garmin invests the time to port some of the features to the older device which probably has no financial benefit for them. Yet, every single update so far has introduced some new features and they seem to be actively working on improving the existing features with forthcoming updates.

It's totally normal to complain if original features that the watch are not working! But complaining that Garmin is maybe a bit slow with porting features that might have been talked about in social network posts haven't made it (yet) is ridicules.

    Just my two cents ....

  • Too true.  I was happy with the feature set of my FR945 when I bought it and can't really complain is a newer more expensive model has additional features.  It's like moaning that your old TV doesn't support 4k when the format wasn't around when you bought the TV.

  • Not everybody bought the FR945 the first day it was on the market (never good on Garmin software philosophy).

the example is a little bit different:

There is a TV with an Panel able off displaying 4k, but the software is not able to view it.
The manufacturer says: we will enable it.
Meanwhile, another model enters the marked wich is able to view it.
Now, you like the look of the older model better than the newer because the brim fits better into your living room and remember the manufacturers promise and buy it. The date when it should be enabled passes and you sit there and can do nothing but complain.

  • treadmill runs and skiing work at least on my 945
