Forerunner 945 - Watch tracks sleep time without wearing it?

Hi everybody,

since a few weeks I own a Forerunner 945. I noticed that there are sleeping hours in Garmin Connect even if I didn't wear the watch at night.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find an option to disable the sleep tracking. For testing purposes I changed the regular sleep time to 1 minute (0:00 - 0:01). But the watch also tracks sleeping time even if it is on the desk for two days. The problem is that everything will be calculated wrong with the wrong sleeping time. I think it's better to have no sleeping hours than wrong ones.

Does anybody have the same issues or is there something wrong with my device? Or is there an option to disable sleep tracking?

Before the Garmin watch, I had 2 Polar devices. Every device recognized if it is not worn and doesn't track anything during this time.

Thanks in advance.

  • Yup, welcome to the garmin world. It's been like that for centuries. Same for Fenix 3 / VAHR / 935 / 945.

Even if I put my watch for a short charge before going to the bed, algorithms will account this as a good deep sleep. I'm wondering if any single engineer could write a simple script to check if watch is charging => it's definitely not a sleep (can please someone from Garmin show how could it be possible to sleep with watch attached to a charger?).

If watch is lying without any single movement and no HR data for 30+ minutes? Same, I'm either dead or simply not wearing my watch...

  • Thanks for your response. Thats very surprisingly. Especially because there is also a movement while you sleep. Otherwise it will not be possible to track the sleep quality. And as you said, technically there shouldn't be a problem to program:

absolutely no movement - no record. Face palm

There are some good things for sure within the Garmin infrastructure, but for round 600 €, this is a bit weak.

Good to know that I'm not the only one.

  • Yep, same here.

I also get nice tracking of HR when wearing watch over a thick winter jacket during my winter runs.

    Must be some Garmin witchcraft...

  • Hi everybody,

I think Garmin fixed this. In my Connect-App there are no more sleeping times when I'm not wearing the watch at night.

I'm very happy about this and like to see that Garmin listens. Maybe it was only a coincidence that it has been fixed. Neither way, nice to see.

Do you all have the same experience?

    Thanks Garmin.
