WiFi Sync fails for 1MB+ *.fit workouts

In my testing whenever I produce a work-out that exceeds about 1MB in filesize of the fit file, then the sync via WiFi will fail. This leaves me with having to sync via Bluetooth, which works but takes ages for these large files. Can confirm this remains an issue up to 3.90 at least (and probably 4.00 too, judging from the Changelog).

Conditions to reproduce:

- Do a work-out that is long enough or contains enough sensor information for the fit file to exceed the 1MB size. Personally I achieve this with 3h+ runs while using my Stryd footpod which logs additional data (power, cadence, vertical oscilation...).

- Try to sync through WiFi (e.g. through the circular menu Sync field), it will say something like "Transfer Complete (1 File Failed)", and the workout will not appear online.

This has been reported by me previously, but not with the such a catchy title so maybe this time somebody looks at it.

A quick check reveals that the scenario of Fit file larger than 1MB occured 13 times to me already, my largest fit file is 1685 KB large, so this case will happen hundreds of thousands of times each year across the Garmin Ecosystem, I would assume.

Can anybody verify the issue please? Probably you can just turn on 1-second-recording, start a run activity with GPS and let the watch sit outside for 10+ hours. Disable blue-tooth on the watch and try to sync with WiFi.

I've just checked back through some of my larger events and none of them have exceeded 1Mb. That includes 10hrs for a 24 stage swimrun event and 13.5 hrs for an 85km mountain ultra. I don't have a Stryd generating that extra data so that will likely be the difference. Always use 1s recording.

Short answer, I can't help you. I suspect there are few here who can.

How large is the 13.5h ultra? Does it include GPS and heart-rate?

Wifi works without disabled BLT? for me not!

Around 800kb with GPS and heart rate from a strap.

so I guess it requires about 16h of activity with gps+hr-strap only, and 3-4h of activity with a stryd :D

Not sure I parse your question, but I do disable blue-tooth to force wifi syncs, as for me the watch is almost always faster to pick-up the phone connection than it is to find the wifi, and once it has the phone it wont sync via wifi, so I disable bluetooth via the circular menu on the watch before saving my activity.
