Forerunner 945 won't connect to Android once disconnecting while away from phone

Lets say I go to the bathroom and I leave my phone on the desk, the Garmin device and my phone disconnect obviously. That's normal. But when I come back and when my Garmin device is literally right next to my phone, the two won't connect. I tried everything. I rebooted the Garmin device and my phone several times, uninstalled the Garmin Connect app and reloaded it, turned bluetooth on both devices on an off. When this problem happens, I need to unpair the two devices and pair them back again. But that only solves the problem until I walk away from my phone again, and they won't reconnect ever again. The problem isn't the phone, because otherwise other bluetooth pairings shouldn't have worked either, such as the bluetooth headphones etc. The problem is either the device or the app, but I need a solution.

  •  Which version of operating system and Garmin Connect app?

The first thing to check is whether the app has all the permissions it needs

  • I've been using my 945 for a month now and without any problem. This connectivity issue started yesterday. I've been either re-pairing since yesterday or carrying my phone around everywhere. As I said, I'm not sure if this is a problem with my phone, but I'm using Android ( Samsung S9 to be specific)

  • Im pretty sure the app has all the permissions granted since I haven't changed anything since the beginning of the month up until yesterday

  • I've had similar problems, although not as regular as the op. I'd turn phone Bluetooth off to connect my headphones to the watch (otherwise they always connected to the phone first) but then could only reconnect watch to phone by rebooting the phone. Occasionally this would also happen when walking out of Bluetooth range. As it's only resolved by rebooting the phone I was thinking it was a phone software issue (pixel 2 running android 10), rebooting the watch has no affect.

Same here, the watch won't connect to the phone anymore. I didn't change anything on the permission side on my Android phone but what I registered right before the watch stopped connecting was that Garmin connect started asking for localisation permissions on Android.

However, the watch is pretty useless without the opportunity to synch so I had to switch back to my Suunto watch. At least Suunto offers an ice hockey mode.

  • This. This seems to be an issue since yesterday for me. Before that connection was flawless.

Update: I just removed the forerunner from the phones known devices and reconnected. At least I have an connection again. Let's see how it behaves after loosing the connection
