Forerunner 945 Firmware 3.90 broken FIT workout download

It appears that with the update to Firmware 3.90 a widget on the Forerunner 945 can no longer download FIT workout data - the request is made fine to the server, but the callback never fires on the watch. The same code works fine on other watches and on the earlier 945 firmware.

Seen on TrainAsONE widget - has anyone seen similar on other widgets/apps?

Thanks

  • I have the same issue with VDOT, latest v4.00 software, I cannot download workouts on my forerunner 945 Disappointed

We have gotten quite a few issues sent to us about this.  VDOT O2 has contacted Garmin about the issue.  For athletes that have the 945, you can use the Garmin Connect Calendar feature on your watch to do your VDOT O2 workouts until the fix has been resolved. It works similarly to the VDOT O2 Workouts App.

  • Just to confirm we are also getting reports from both 945 and 245 users on this issue.

Any news/acknowledgement of this from Garmin yet? This is  a pretty huge bug - a workout focused watch that can't download workouts....

  • It doesn’t seem much action from Garmin on this.

  • I would assume the conversation to fix this will be between the app developer and the Garmin. This is not a core feature of the watch. It’s a feature implemented by a 3rd party...at least that’s my understanding. Follow the progress of the discussion in the Developer forum assuming that is where this is being discussed.

  • It's a feature used by third party Connect IQ developers (the routeCourse app in my case) to download courses and workouts, but the problem is not in our apps.  Garmin appear to have broken this Connect IQ feature in these watch/firmware releases, and there is no workaround we can implement. We're trying to get them to get fixed firmware out.

  • And that was the point of my response to Former Member. It's not a core function of the watch. His comment is a little off course.

Now, if the watch could not accept workouts created from Garmin Connect that would be entirely different.

  • So your assertion is that the Connect IQ platform and the app ecosystem it enables is not a core capability of the watch? Some Garmin product managers may object to that.

  • I can see Former Member point.

For some users this specific well defined ConnectIQ SDK feature may be the specific reason they purchased a Garmin watch - to download on demand a specific personalised workout, map or other file from a third party service.

Its also a little unfortunate for the third party service which has invested the time and effort to build a Garmin widget, and then recommended users purchase a Garmin watch to use their service, only to have unhappy users come back to them expecting them to fix the issue.

This is not a dig at Garmin - on the other thread https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/i/bug-reports/forerunner-945-firmware-3-90-appears-to-have-broken-trainasone-widget they've noted that they are working on a fix, just a comment that not all users have the same needs from a watch - what is irrelevant for one can be essential for another.
