Does anyone know how this information is gathered? I don't run with my phone, just my 945 and HRM belt. This is clearly not reflective of the temperatures I ran in. It was pretty consistent in the high 20s (F) i.e., around -2 C.

The temperature graph from the original post is indeed from what the device is recording, as many users have already stated. If anyone is wanting the true air temperature to be displayed here, a sensor…
It's the temperature from the internal temp sensor in the watch which in your case is higher than the ambient temp from your body heat. A tempe sensor will give you pretty accurate ambient temperature…
That sensor is used to measure the internal temperature because the barometric sensor needs that data.
It’s useless in the activity files and I don’t understand why Garmin enabled it’s recording. It’s…

Tempe is pretty good except you expose it to the sun. Best place is in my eyes on the laces like a footpod.
I own one and would not buy it again. Its somewhere on one pair of hiking boots, but I could not get any usage out of it wich would improve my sports.
The best use was to put it into the ice box on long drives to monitor the ice cream :-D

If anyone is wanting the true air temperature to be displayed here, a sensor like the Tempe will likely give you the most accurate information as the 945 is usually worn right on the wrist.
The temperature displayed on the map of your activity (assuming this is an outdoor activity) will be the temperature reported for that area at that time, and will not be altered by how your device is worn.
Thank you and everyone else in this thread for clarifying this.
The problem with the temperature on the map: its different to the one wich comes from the watch' widgets and also different from the Edge widgets.
