HR is inaccurate during daily tracking.

Hi all,

I leave here an image that shows what we have been saying for months (since version 2.70), the daily tracking HR without being active is disaster.

After one run, the clock marks 40 beats less that the HRM-RUN band.

A greeting.

  • I agree that there are problems with all-day tracking for a while with how the watch is counting active calories (or interpreting when to count them).

    But,

OHRM is not your heartrate, not your pulse, but blood flow under the skin. Now, right now if you're living where the temps are cold, you're dealing with restricted blood flow due it being to friggin cold. It's going to skew low because of it, which is yet another reason to use a chest strap for your activities.

The problem Garmin has is in the algorithm(s) they are employing to take into account how the OHRM functions with the cold season, how to interpret activity when dealing with the restricted blood flow due to the cold and being bad at all of it.

They've addressed this in prior years (The Forerunner 235 had cold weather issues), but I don't think either have addressed it properly, or have addressed it, but because they changed something somewhere, it broke this.

Knowing Garmin, it's probably the latter. The only thing I would recommend to you and everyone here that are seeing the same problem is email the beta team. They don't do anything by posting here. Email them, do what they ask if they do and hope they course correct.

  • Thanks for the reply.
But as I comment this happen from version 2.70, I have the clock since May, so it is not caused by the cold. I have now encouraged to upload the image.
Anyway I will follow your recommendation and send it to beta team.
    A greeting.

  • If I understand you correctly, you're saying the HR on the widget is incorrect when you're not in an activity?  During an activity it seems correct?  If this is the case, there's a huge write up about this in the Fenix 6 forum. This started on the F6 after an update in May also. Some have it, others do not. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a fix or a work around discovered yet.

  • Hi,

Example, the watch is not recording activity, while doing road bike with Edge 830.

Version 2.70, you can see how the ppm of the day are close to the values recorded in the activity with the 830 and HRM-RUN.

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4004891704

Version 2.80, it can be seen how the ppm of the day does not approach the values recorded in the activity with the 830 and HRM-RUN.

    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4110403265

I noticed the problem in beta 2.72 when introducing  wrist-based heart rate for swimming, currently the same thing happens with version 3.90 in forerunner 945.

  • Same issue with Fenix 6X Pro.

Amazfit Stratos is connected to Polar H10 chest strap, MiBand 2 and Garmin are using optical HR.

  • I have exactly the same problem, any solution soon? It will be that in monitor mode it uses less energy in the HR monitor and that is why the reading is wrong ??? please a solution soon. Greetings.

  • Sure there is a workaround. Just record it as an activity. The OHR polls far more frequently during an activity than it does for 24/7 monitoring (peek under the watch band and check for yourself if you want), and consequently the HR is far more accurate. You can discard rather than saving at the end of the workout if you prefer.
