Any way to manually edit the LOAD on an activity?

So this morning I go for a ride and my Forerunner 945 freezes up on me.
It freezed at about 2h15 at which point my LOAD data field already showed about 265.
Pressing start/stop or any other button did nothing at all.

After holding the power button in for a while the device resets and I was able to tell it to "resume" the activity.
Interestingly it still seemed to track my time and distance while it was frozen, so afterward that shows up correctly:

But after the restart my LOAD started from scratch and now shows up as only 149:

So my "coach" (as I like to think of it) thinks I'm slacking off, but actually I should be within target for my 7 day training load:

When I try to edit my ride, I only see the following options:

Does anybody know of a way to manually edit the LOAD on an activity?

Also: is there a way to prevent my 945 from freezing up on me in future?

are you ready for one more ?

    • remove all activity on Garmin Connect Web from yesterday
    • disconnect your watch from all Garmin programs
      • turn off Garmin Express
      • turn off Garmin Connect Mobile (bluetooth…

  • Wow! Even reloading a fixed time shifted file from your watch doesn't correct Training Status?

It would be great if a Garmin developer could chime in to tell us how that is possible

  • Hi wgb27, I think there is no chance to modify the 7-day training load backwards

I had the same problem recently when my FR945 restarted after 3 hours of cycling activity just before the finish (navigation on and ClimbPro on). The final training load was 27 instead of about 400 :-( I tried everything (a procedure similar to that advised by OnlyTwo), but unsuccessfully. Modification and viewing the training load on Garmin Connect is not a problem, but it's useless if it is not included in the training state.

The problem is probably that training load can be counted only by licensed devices, and this calculation must be done directly in the watch. Unfortunately, if there is a restart during the activity, these training points are lost forever ... :-(

Restarting during the activity is very frustrating and it must be a bug (probably related to the ClimbPro feature)...

    hi,

Hi wgb27, I think there is no chance to modify the 7-day training load backwards.

    Indeed

My guess the only way to catch and modify wrong load is before syncing with Garmin Connect Wink

Or one could ask via Garmin Support to amend the data ?

Or there could be an unknown identifier value in the fit file ?

    • I used the same fit file content and only changed the load value.
    • one should deactivate sync, start a new workout, amend the load and sync ?
    • etc etc

Or wait for some one the find the solution, or go after it yourself Slight smile

I vaguely remember seeing one post mentioning the Garmin Support solution ?

  • Hi OnlyTwo,

in fit file you have only saved final calculated value (calculated directly in watch). And training load (I mean 7-day load and training status) is already wrong in watch after restart.

In other words - training load is calculated online during activity by watch itself and then saved to the fit file only for information. But it is impossible modify training load value in fit file and then calculate training load backwards after whole activity, therefore modifying this value and new synchronization with GC does not work.

Crash/restart would not be not a big problem if the "online training load value" was not cleared after the restart...

right you are, I was only talking about the exercise load Slight smile

right you are, the 7 day load in the watch will always take in account the activity with faulty exercise load

I am looking at it how I sync my data with Garmin Connect

    • I do not use any auto sync with Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile.
    • I only sync my activity data by uploading it from within Garmin Connect Web.
    • No other data from my watch is being uploaded to Garmin Connect Web.

Back in 2019 GCW showed my training load with data only from activity fit files

    • while writing this I remember I synced the whole lot via Garmin Express during a 6 month period !!!
    • so you could be right after all, and the real training load came from a source other than the fit file Slight smile
    • Rolling eyes

You solved the riddle why the changed values did not reflect in the training load view Thumbsup

Without actual testing with live data I am not in the right position to talk about this matter Slight smile

  • This has been frustrating to me as well.

I had a cycling activity a few weeks ago where the chest strap went nuts (static electricity on a dry day) and showed my HR as 230+ for long sections of the ride.  Of course that impacted the Load for that activity as well as the training effect aerobic vs anaerobic.  Changing the HR for that ride had no effect.  DELETING the ride and inserting a new manual ride at the appropriate HR average had no effect.  Nothing else I can think to do.

Yet another reason I use a different application (Sporttracks) for my Load/Effect metrics and just try to ignore Garmin's garbage altogether.
