GPS settings

Hello!.
Which GPS configuration gives you the best result? Only GPS, GPS + Glonass, or GPS + Galileo?
Thank you.
Regards, Juan

  • You'll get different pieces of advice, best to try out different settings on the same course with same conditions as much as possible (eg cloud cover, same time of day, etc  ) and compare what works for you.

FWIW, this was interesting re the problems with the Galileo system over the summer (and not quite resolved)

  • Also, you can see what satellites near you: https://in-the-sky.org/satmap_worldmap.php

With that, you can see all the GPS satellites that are overhead at any time. If you click "Select satellites" you can choose GLONASS and Galileo. They're not selected by default.

  • Also, if on iPhone, GNSS View app provides a good view of satellites.  Moving the slider back and forth show how difficult it is to test using similar conditions as the satellites available change so quickly and constantly.  I do feel like GPS and GLONASS give me the best results but I cannot really support that.  With Galileo still not fully operational There may be an issue with it for the time being.  Although minimal there is apparently a battery hit using two systems.

There was a discussion on this topic some time ago where Garmin themselves wrote that the chipset is now more optimized for Glonass than Galileo, and that additional work on Galileo will only happen later. Since then i have it set to GPS + GLONASS.

  • +1. DC Rainmaker said this too. I use Glonass and I’m happy with the results. I’d try both and see what works for you.
