Unable to receive notifications and synchronize with the phone.

I'm no longer receiving notifications on my F945 :( I'm not able to synchronize my steps, activities, and so on as well. It starts syncing and I can see the ring in Garmin Connect Android app show the progress. However, it breaks at about 30% and then connection drops. I've got a connection icon on my watch. It shows the phone or crossed out phone which means it's connected or disconnected. However, when it breaks the connection during synchronization the icon is missing. I've tried repairing my watch but it stuck on Initialization.

Findings:

I've performed factory reset 3 times already - did not help. I'm having difficulties with re-pairing my phone as it stays with Initialization status on my watch.

To be able to pair my watch I need to wait until crossed out phone icon appears on the watch face. Then it allows me to pair it without any issues.

It was working at the beginning. I was collecting notifications, synchronization was working as a charm. Not anymore.

ps.

I can still synchronize when I connect my watch to PC.

please help

  • Have you looked here? https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-mobile-andriod

It might be your phone/Android OS that is the problem. You might get better response and assistance from an Android user there.

  • yes, I have. I think the problem is really on the watch side. When I want to pair it with the phone it looks like it can't initiate an internal BT module. It displays Initializing text and then fails. It's not even displaying connection status on the watch face that time - it's happening only when you disable BT (but it's enabled in options). When it finally initializes that (it takes 1-2 hours in some cases) it displays info that I need to download Garmin Connect app and so on.

Are you pairing via the Bluetooth Setting dialogue of Android or going through the Garmin Connect mobile app? You have to pair Garmin devices through the app; using OS-level BT settings won't work.

  • Thanks for that. But, just to let you know. I know how to pair it. I use Garmin devices for couple of years now. It's obviously a Garmin Connect app. The problem is that my forerunner is stuck with the "Initialization" message. Which normally just blinks and goes to another text asking the user to download and install Garmin Connect app (then you just confirm that in your app and then you need to type a code into the app to pair it). It's not reaching that point. It stays with the "Initialization" message and shows an error in 30 seconds or so.
I'd like to remind about the BT connection status icon. It's missing when you disable BT, it's crossed out when not connected and not crossed out - so it's just a phone icon - when it's connected. For me, the icon is not even there.

It's really strange because it was working for a month or so without any issues.

  • Before you try to re-pair do you:

    • Make sure the watch is removed from GCM.
    • Close GCM
    • Go to Bluetooth settings and 'Forget' the watch.
    • Restart the phone
    • Restart the watch
    • Open GCM

and then begin the pairing process.

At least that's the process on iOS. Is it similar on Android OS? Especially the bit about forgetting the watch in Bluetooth settings?

  • Well, first of all. Garmin Forerunner 945 is not and won't be listed in paired devices (at least in Android devices). Restarting my phone won't help as the Forerunner's BT module can't be initialized. I've already contacted with Garmin support and I've been asked to collect files from Garmin directory (except maps).
In general, it seems it's getting worse now. I've had charged my watch before I went to bed. Today morning I've noticed it's dead - absolute 0% battery.

  • phone

    I'm having the same issue

An insane work around is to uninstall the app and then reinstall

Unfortunately the fix doesn't last long and you have to do it again

But at least you don't have to reset the watch

  • Garmin Support asked me to try that. However, it did not help. I've compared with my friend's F945. When you select Pair option it displays a message asking the user to install Garmin Connect. That's not happening with my F945. :( I think BT module is dead.
Btw, what about connection status icon in your case? Do you use it in your watch? What it says, is it even there, or crossed out?

  • Just to let you guys know. Today I've collected my package. Garmin confirmed that BT module is broken and replaced my F945 so I've got a brand new watch again :)
