Headphones are not disconnected when I stop music and I'm not in a activity (so no audio alerts requested). By design or bug?

I have firmware 36.08 and headphones Jaybird Vista. I was not in a run activity, I was just listening to music.

I noticed that if I'm listening to music, the headphones symbol appears on the watch and this means that headphones are connected. If I pause the music and I exit from the music screen, I notice that the headphones remain connected. Only if I shut down the headphones, the watch disconnects from the headphones.

Maybe it would be better to save battery of the watch to disconnect automatically from the headphones when the music is stopped and not only when the headphones are shut down? Is this by design or is this a bug? If the headphones are connected but the music is not playing, is the power consumption big like when I'm listening to music or it's not a cause of concern?
?

  • My guess: this is by design as connecting a headphone takes quite a little bit of time (at least with my headphones) and this would be rather annoying if the watch would reconnect all the time you stop the music.

No idea if disconnecting would save significant battery or staying connected just sends heartbeats to keep the connection alive which would cost not too much.

  • With firmware beta 3.08 and headphones Jbird Vista the connection is always very good at the first attempt (once in the sensor menu  I select "headphones ON").

Hopefully as you say there is no battery issue for the watch when the music is not playing but the headphones are connected.

There is another problem with my Jbird Vista. If I'm listening to music and the phone calls, I would like to switch the audio of headphones from watch to phone. This happens only if I disconnect the headphones from the watch going to the menu and selecting headphones off, or I have to shut down the headphones and turno on again. Then I can connect to the phone.

If the watch would disconnects alone from headphones when I pause the music, then the connection would switch automatically to the phone (the headphones say "connection switched").

Now it's not easy to use simultaneously phone and watch with the Jbird Vista. I know that with other headphones (for example the Jabra Elite 65) it's enough to press a button of the headphones to switch connection. If Garmin doesn't change anything in the settings of the watch, this difficulty to switch connection between watch and phone is a big limitation of the Jbird Vista.
