Problems with wrist based heart rate while various activities

Hi there!

I own a Forerunner 945 since about 5 months now. Since about 2 - 3 months i have troubles regarding the wrist based heart rate monitoring during certain activities.

The problems occur especially while doing a "Hiking" or "Mountaineering" activity. Either the heart rate sticks below 100, even it is higher then for example 140 bpm . Or it goes up to i.e. 150 and then drops down to 120, goes up to 150 again, ... while the measured real heart rate is about 140 constantly.

The weird thing is, that it worked correct in the first months even during the mentioned activities.
I have tested it with firmware 2.60, 2.80 and now the 3.08 beta. The watch itself is a revision "C" model.

Anyone else with the same problems?

Thank your for any advice!

  • Yes, me too. Entirely unusable. Worked great during first months. Over there in the F6 forum are also several people complaining and Garmin says they are working on a fix.

I stick to HRM-run and Polar OH1 for now

  • If you're using poles of any kind, the grip strength will bork wrist HR readings. Same applies to weightlifting, rowing, most cycling.

You NEED a chest-strap HRM for just about everything but walking, maybe running.

    Hi there!

Thank you very much for answering my questions.
I dont use poles, neither i use my watch during grip strength activities.

Until Garmin solves this issue, i will downgrade to 2.50, a firmware which seemed to work quite well with the mentioned activities.

    Greetings!
