workouts not syncing to watch any longer

When I modify a workout on the phone app (Android) or on the web site using Chrome, and then sync to the watch, the workout isn't updating. This applies to both the workout (e.g., change the number of repeats and/or pace) and the workout name. 

This has worked for most of the summer, so this is a new thing .. has anyone experienced anything similar? I've been running with this watch since late May without this happening, everything is up-to-date in terms of software.

  • Re you sure it isn't updating? I have found that when you edit the workout and then go to "view" it, it looks like it wasn't updated but actually is. Try editing just the first step and the name and then go into the workout and actually enter the first step to see if it took the update.

  • Hi .. yes, it's not updating. It worked well all summer for my various workouts, sometimes I'd just change the # of repeats, or the pace, or the name. All would sync between the phone and the website, and if I sent the workout from the phone Connect app to the watch it would update there too .. not any longer. It's really quite puzzling.

    • I tried a reset on the watch (hold power off for 15 seconds, the restart) but that didn't help either.
    • I've alsy tried to send the workout from the website via cable to the watch .. again, no indication that transfer fails, but it still doesn't show as updated on the watch.
    • Finally, I've started the workout and stopped it just to make sure it wouldn't update then (it update previously without that) but also no success.

    Other info, like my runs info/stats, heart rate, body battery etc, gets synced correctly between the watch and the app.

  • same for me. No syncing with phone. But with PC it's OK.

  • No go with PC to watch directly (Windows 10 & Samsung S9 Android) .. again, worked all summer. So odd.

    Maybe an issue with the phone app? But then I'd expect more people to run into this problem.

  • Can you go to the app and check Settings->Sync log („Synchronisationsprotokoll“) for errors?

  • Same here! No sync since last app update 

  • Hmm. No idea, in my case it was a defect segment and that was easy to identify. I cleared it then in the sync section in Garmin web and everything worked afterwards fine again. But can be a lot of other things also.

    I would also have a look in the filesystem of the watch. Maybe something under NewFiles blocks sync? Wildly guessing, an expert has to look for it.

    Edit: oversaw the last line. Seems your app has a connection problem?

  • For me it's Settings -> Device Sync Audit (Android app) - I hope this is the info you mentioned.

    Just prior to this I renamed a workout and changed the number of repeats. I also did the 'send to phone' action on the app and then synced the watch/app. Again, no change on the watch.

    First time I'm looking at this type of log file, but I don't see anything that indicates an obvious error condition.
