Is audio prompt supposed to work for turn-by-turn navigation or am I missing anything?

I just recently did a 50k bike race where the organizers had the gpx file that I could import via the Garmin Connect website, then download the course to the watch.

As I was doing the race, the watch would dutifully beep and show me turn arrows with distance to them.

What I was hoping for was for the watch to announce (over BT headset that I have paired with the watch) similar to car GPS systems: "turn right in 200 meters" in voice. That way I didn't have to lift my arm to check which way to turn at every waypoint.

Is it now how it's supposed to work?

Only the (annoying) sound when you are using watch and headphones. No speech.

Might be possible when you carry your smartphone with you, never tried that. (I can find it in Garmin Connect Mobile for my Edge device, not the 945).

Thanks, I've tried with and without the phone and with the phone connected to the watch, not connected, playing music, not playing etc. Probably a nonexistent feature.

have the 945 and I don't think it's possible, however it does seem the strava mobile app does this with the paid pro level subscription. I would have that garmin would be the leader in this category?
