Connecting external HRM straps

Hello,

I own two HRM straps. One is for cycling (the basic model by Garmin, I think I bought it for $20+), and now I also have HRM-Swim.

The basic model of HRM strap I used previously with my vivoactive HR, and it worked fine all the time. However, with FR945, from the very beginning, I have hard time automatically connecting the watch with the strap when I start an activity. The watch defaults to optical HR. It is only after the reboot of the watch, when I start an activity it picks up the external HR. And I have to do it every single time. Rather frustrating. Is there something that I am missing? How can I fix it?

HRM-swim strap has been connecting well, until the update to 2.80. Now, the watch again defaults to the optical HR. However, I guess due to the design of Pool Swim app, it searches for HR data when saving the app, and still downloads data from the HRM-Swim. So, the only difference I notice is that optical HR works throughout the swim workout, the watch does not say that it is connected to HRM-swim when I start the activity.

Has anyone had this problem? What are the ways of fixing it? Thank you!

  • I noticed the same problem after going to 3.08 - HRM run and Stryd footpod both failed to connect.  I can't promise it's fix, but I tried the 'reset' reboot (holding the light button for 15s until it forces a shutdown), then restarting and I haven't had the same problem since
