Forerunner 945 - your opinions

Hello,

General question/thought about Forerunner 945 - are you happy with it?

I am not so far...

I used Feniks 5s and wanted a change for a better but...
 - ohr is crazy... sometimes it is way too low and sometimes too high... Today it got stuck even on hrm strap (had to reset during training and then it got right). Thanks to that I guess that all the other metrics (rhr, stress score, training load, body battery etc) are screwed Slight frown
- battery lasts max a week (it should two if I am right)
- buttons are kind of soft... Sometimes I have to double check if I pressed it because I can't feel any click

So....
I expected something better than that.... for that amount of money
 Slight frown

  • I've returned my 945, primarily as I bought it from an oversea's seller (as I think the new price of the watch is too high). There were two issues for me that I wasn't happy with - the first being that because the watch was region locked to Asia, I'd have to wait 6-8 weeks for firmware updates to become available (so I've read) and the second reason was the maps. You can install any maps you like, but using free maps loses some of the extra's that Garmin add on (even though both sets of maps are based on the same OSM data)

There's a good guide to adding extra maps on DC Rainmakers website - but after seeing the Garmin maps and free maps running side by side - there's only one winner for me : Garmin, the colours are more vibrant and the text is easier to read. One of the extras you get with Garmin's maps is topography, and as I live in a hilly rural area, this is something I'd be making use of.

I still plan on picking up a 945, but only when the price drops on an EU/UK unit - which I'm hoping for when black friday comes around.

Lastly - it may just be a weight thing, but the 945 does not feel like a premium device in the same way that the Fenix does.

  • I love the watch.

I turned off pulseOX because I find useless. My battery life has not increased as a result but I am already very happy about the 7d+ battery life.

Sleep tracking should be renamed "bed time tracking", and the sleep phases are a joke.

Apart from the few bugs introduced in the last beta fw (but hey! it's beta) the watch has proven very stable.

Overall, very very happy. I does everything I want well, and the things it doesn't do well are things I don't care about anyway (pulseOX, sleep...).

For the things I do: run 60km/week, swim a couple of times, I use the HRM tri.

  • Have my 945 Rev. D now for 4 weeks. Very happy with it. OHR is spot on. No problems with buttons.

Use it for running, cycling, hiking, swimming. No problems at all.

Had a Fenix 6 Pro. Returned it because of button and OHR problems. In addition it felt way to heavy. 945 is exactly right.

  • I agree with all of what Alex said. I upgraded to the 945 (from 935) mainly for adding music which "works" but is like using a early 2000s device. Battery life is worse than the 935, even without using music or pulse ox. If they go to annual releases & only half attempt to improve firmware, I'll have to look elsewhere for my next watch.

  • Couldn't agree more...
