Stuck in FW 2.70

Hi all,

I bought a couple a days ago a brand new 945.

Just noticed there's a new beta FW I'd like to try out but I realised I haven't got even the latest

official Firmware 2.80. On my system info it says Software version is 2.70.

I've got auto update on, the watch is also connected to Garmin Connect and Garmin Express but neither is giving me any updates.

Any thoughts how to get this timepiece updated?

  • You probably have the Asian version. Latest is 2.70.

  • Yes, this is it. Just confirmed it from the language settings.

    I ordered the watch from ebay and was under the impression the watch was coming from France to Finland.

    Will Connect app still be pushing the new firmwares into the watch even though I'm in europe? How long is the delay approximately? It seems 2.80 has been out for almost a month now.

    Are there any other downsides having an asian version in europe apart the delay in the firmwares and lack of european languages?

    I mean, it must still be the same watch, no matter the region.

  • Asian firmware are delayed about a month or so, and you can't use the beta versions. That's the only difference.

    I have the exact same issue - Received my "Revision A" watch this morning and found out my UK ordered watch is actually Asian - and it wont play well with the garmin connect app in ios.

    I'm sending it back for a refund, and will wait for a more reputable supplier to have the watch on offer.

  • I haven't experienced issues with Connect app on Android yet. So far the watch is working great.

    I'm just a little concerned will Connect app be able to offer new firmwares to this watch as they roll out for the Asian version, or is there some kind of region lock between Asian watch version and european connect app.

  • No region locks, only difference is the languages. Garmin has been selling APAC devices since the Forerunner 620. Back then the languages is only in the menus, nowadays it affects the text in notifications. The Garmin Connect issue mentioned above was an iOS GC bug.
