Using Bike and Run course during multisport activity?

Is there a way to load both a run course and a bike course during a multisport activity (e.g., triathlon)?  It seems like you can only load one course, and it looks like even then it's trying to use that course for each of the three sports, which doesn't seem very helpful.

  • Not been possible out of the box to date. Might be a useful feature to suggest to Garmin through their features/ suggestions page you’ll find on the interweb.

  • This would be a great feature, especially to allow the use of ClimbPro.  Right now the only possibility I know of is to load it mid-activity (for example, run course while in the run portion of the activity) by holding the Up button and scrolling to Navigation then selecting the course.  Not exactly convenient in the middle of a race.

  • Has anyone found a way to get this to work? I don't even see the option as says to select the course via Navigation menu.

I'm running a full Ironman distance "race" tomorrow, but doing it on my own, so I need the course queues to get me where I've planned to be. Might just have to skip using multisport/triathlon activity type. :(

  • It works fine to load a course in the triathlon activity type. Options->Navigation->Courses

I tried to see if you can disable courses for an activity type when you create it, but couldn't find that. The default triathlon activity that comes out of the box got support for courses.

If you have multiple courses (one for bike and one for run) then you can switch course midrace.

I've had some issues with switching the course in the middle of the activity so check that it works for you before you do that. It could be safer to create a course for the whole race.

  • Exactly as ericgottlieb described. I did this whilst riding out of T1 on a 70.3 with one hand on the TT bars, the other trying to press the necessary buttons (6 presses apx to get the course going) Never attempted it again as it’s not safe. Running out of T1 and attempting it before the mount line is slightly safer but it’s like you’re handcuffed and there’s plenty of margin for error anyhow

  • Course is course, have a course that has the full triathlon route including swim, bike and run and just have that course. Courses does not contain any information on the sport and they can be loaded to any activity you like.

Of course there's one feature which would be killer, the course would contain transition information, and it would automatically change your sport when you pass transition point.. Think how cool and nice would that be? :) Especially in Swimruns.

And you can change the courses during the activity, but it has pretty much button pressing.

  • So I still can't figure this out. I ended up just doing my race in three different activities. I made this video to demonstrate going into Triathlon activity type, and scrolling through various menus to try and find "Course" but it doesn't exist!

Then I go into a bike activity, and course is right there! Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

  • Courses are under the Navigation menu, but your Triathlon activity is missing that menu option. My Triathlon activity got the Navigation menu.

After you have selected Courses it will popup to the top of the menu under Options. The last used menu options will be placed on top of the Options menu just as in your "Bike (MusEnd)" activity. If you go down in the list you will find Navigation and under that you will find Courses again.

  • Under options for my Triathlon activity, I see no option for Navigation. I see My Workouts, Triathlon Settings, and Training
