I just started swimming with my garmin and for an hour in the pool, with 1600-1800m of swimming, I get 69-70 Cal on my 945. That can't be right, no? Something I'm doing wrong with the watch? It sure seems like a bigger workout than 60 Cal. :-D

I have the 935 and I see the same. The situation improves if you use HRM-swim, however again seems few. I don't think it is so easy for a watch to give you estimation in the water. the watch calculates a number based on movement and optionally HR, but in the water you have additional loss of calories due to higher body warmth loss compared to the air.
I did a swim on Monday, just a very easy session on 1900 Inc drills my 945 give a reading of 365 calories for a 45 min set, not sure if it's right, just what's it's reading
I use HRM-swim and it gave me 191 calories for 1075 meters of freestyle. Looks about right for me (I'm very lean).
When I changed from an Asia/Pacific watch on 3.30 to a Rest of World watch on 4.0, my swim calories approximately doubled — to a figure that seems more realistic (ie, closer to the figure on my previous, non-Garmin watch).
