Indoor swim app advice

I would like to start tracking my indoor swimming with my 945. I have set the correct pool length. How does it work in the pool? Do I push a lap button every time I swim a pool length? Honestly for now I only care about distance.

For me, mixed laps produce inconsistent results in recognizing my strokes.

I press the lap button for one simple reason: I can view all my laps' data in the phone app as it will show each lap as a 25m interval.

If you don't press the lap button, you'll only be able to see the breakdown via the website.

Hi, I'm just looking online as just got a forerunner 935, and it's over counted the distance on ym pool swim by 500m (actually did 2km, said i did 2.5km). It seems to be adding in random lengths, with ridiculously fast times, and low stroke counts. I only do front crawl, kick off, swim to the end, tap the wall, turn around, take 2 seconds, tehn push off again. Any idea what I could be doing wrong to make it overcount?

Thanks in advance for any help

For example breaking your stroke for a moment to look at the watch, or for other reason.

I have a 945 that will drop 200 yards on a continious 800 yard freestyle swim; with no stopping. Many calls to Garmin and watch exchanged from 935 to 945, same problem. They have a problem with these watchs and I have not been able to get any help on tech support. Amazing... most of my calls get dropped and they never return my calls even on request. I am very disappointed I have spent hundreds of dollars without satisfaction.

    Slight correction:

“I have a problem with these watches”...

There are any number of reasons why you (and a handful of others) might have a problem but there is no evidence of a systemic problem with the watches counting lengths in a pool.

How do you do your turns? If you do nice and soft turns, it might not understand that you turned. Push more from the wall.

I don’t do flip turns, I stop, turn and kick off with no pause. Today I swam 100 yards and it registered 50.  I am use to losing 25 yds on a 1000 yard swim but this is too much.  I don’t use auto pause of stop once I start a swim.
