non-zero data-averaging setting (Cycling Power meter)

Hi there,

It seems for bike computers the default setting excludes zero values for power when you are not pedaling. I currently using the FR945 as a bike compueter paired with Vector 3. I assume this is the same for my FR945 as in the Edge series but I could not find this in the manual. The setting fields in the FR945 do not include this parameter. Could anyone confirm if the power data I am getting with my watch is excluding zero values?

Thanks!

Jose

  • As far as I understand does the 945 include zeros.

Common convention is to fill gaps in pedalling with 0 for power but not store any value for cadence.

This is so that if you have a hour long activity where you coast half the time it shows the actual average power and effort. (You'd get a pretty crazy FTP if taking breaks during downhills would not change your average power.)

For cadence you are interested in the periods you were actually pedalling to know you kept it in a good range, and inserting zero values would just mess up the data to be pretty meaningless for regular use cases.
