Two Sapphire Fenix 6 Pro’s, backlight / contrast issues

I bought two fenix 6’s today, both are the Carbon grey DLC coated with sapphire glass.

Have a look at these photos, my wife's is on the left hand side and mine the right. Her looks very yellow compared to mine which looks far crisper and sharper. Both have backlight set to 50%.

Any thoughts on if there’s a setting other than backlight that could cause this before I go back to the shop where I bought them?

  • Sad to say but every 6S Pro has a blue tint - including Sapphire.

However as I saw on YT review 6S Pro Solar seems to have the same black backlight as bigger models tend to have.

  • I've just ordered a 6S sapphire from Amazon Germany (seller uhrcenter) and was wondering what do you mean buy from Amazon?

In the context of what user Zofia had as experience of replacing the watch - I suggested (and only use) Amazon as their return-refund proces is best in this part of galaxy...

  • I'll check hows the backlight. If bad I'll send it back for a refund and order something else. For this kind of money after one year on the market this is embarrassing for a brand that tries to charge this kind of money on a watch

That is a daylight photo. We don't have issues on that kind of light even on the bad ones.

"Thanks, I couldn't find it. Still doesn't change the fact that good 6Xs started to appear only after S/N 63407 and higher"

I found this thread after getting a 6X Sapphire factory refurb and being horrified at the display quality. I fully understand that transflective is not OLED, and I sold my Apple Watch specifically because the battery life was too short. So, I was very willing to have poor colors in exchange for much more battery life But, it looked worse than I envisioned - and there is no way to see them in the store as Garmin only gives the stores dummy models for display.

So I went to Best Buy and bought a new fresh one today, and it was only a hair better - and about the same. This contradicts what someone said about these getting better 10 months ago. I am not sure how to find a 6X that is backlit without purple. Since it looks normal in daylight, it may just be a crap non-white LED illuminator and not the LCD at all.

  • As it was pointed out previously, the only way to be sure you will get pitch black screen is to get solar version (applied to 6X until recently - but with launch of solar versions of 6/6S they also have it)

With Sapphire models - things are getting better - but its still 50-50% chance.

With Pro models - chances are very low...

P.S. launch of solar versions across the full 6 series proves that Garmin is aware of the issue - but will never publicly admit it as it would lead to massive recall of products and bad business results.

Instead - they are using Apple's approach they had with iPhone 4 reception (famous "antenna gate"). Approach was - negate the issue, and silently launch improved product (iPhone 4s) - and later on they even leveraged better reception as a reason for upgrade...

Garmin recently silently launched solar version of screen across the full 6 line of products. They are all pitch black, no issues... I havent seen any forum discussion anywhere where people were craving for solar models. Get it?

Lets wait month or two when first "neutral" reviewers start to praise the better screens... and our wallets starts to itch...

Still they make the best fitness watches - and if we had the options we would look elsewhere...

I had no run across this information. All I saw was that people said the 6 Pro Sapphires were always good. Then others said they are all good or bad and no way to predict. If the 6X Sapphire I get from Garmin this week has the issue, I will get a Solar. I totally am willing to give up OLED quality to get great battery life, but I cannot live with a screen that looks like my Atari Lynx from 1989. All I want is for it to look like some of them look like.

Oh, the Atari now has cult status :)

  • I will never buy another Garmin watch if Blueish / purple screen, and OHR keep the same issues!
