Two Sapphire Fenix 6 Pro’s, backlight / contrast issues

I bought two fenix 6’s today, both are the Carbon grey DLC coated with sapphire glass.

Have a look at these photos, my wife's is on the left hand side and mine the right. Her looks very yellow compared to mine which looks far crisper and sharper. Both have backlight set to 50%.

Any thoughts on if there’s a setting other than backlight that could cause this before I go back to the shop where I bought them?

It all depends on whether it is genuine Sapphire or artificially made Sapphire and also depends on how high quality process they are using to make it but I would still say even though it is artificially made glass they use it is still stronger than Gorilla glass..

here is a video testing artificial Sapphire against real Sapphire

The sapphire itlesf does not, but there is a AR coating that scratches very easily. I experienced it myself, I made multiple swirls (like on an old car) trying to polish off another scratch and also rubbed a decent portion of the Ar coating off with a rubber eraser. It looked liked the screen had a stain afterwards,.

  • Do you think it scratches more easily than the Gorilla Glass?

I can’t believe what I’m reading here... obviously the Sapphire is way harder but way reflective too. I’m completely impressed with some “experts” here.

I think what he means is, given that the coating on the sapphire scratches easily, which is harder or less scratch proof.

I would argue that as a number of people have very easily scratched the 'sapphire', with one individual rubbing off some of the coating with a pencil rubber, the gorilla glass would be more robust.

I would argue that the quality of this 'top end' product is poor! Way too many issues across the range!!

Too many issues or too many people complaining for the same “problems” for months. We need to take care of the watch is not bulletproof, I can’t believe that some individuals literally destroy the watch and then comes back saying that the screen or the DLC is not that harder, I think that the “problems” would solve if people use the products with common sense. For me the only mayor and real problem about the Fénix range is the backlight issue, the variations between backlights and the bluish glare.

  • Decided to get Fenix 6 Pro from Amazon.de the other day and have been going through this thread in horror. It seems that even today getting a comfortably black screen is still the luck of the draw. Moreover, it seems that Sapphire versions have better chances of avoiding blue screen which sucks as while many appreciate the Sapphire versions, I'd like to avoid them because of the better readibility of Gorilla Glass DX and because I wouldn't like to wear any +500 euro device without a screen protector (having scratched multiple dress watches with mineral/sapphire glass). Should I cancel the order or something?

  • If it is not a marketplace dealer, and the watch comes directly from Amazon, there should be absolutely no problems with a return if the watch does not meet your expectations. But in general you also have a 14-day right of return. You don't even have to give a reason for this. So look at the watch and then decide.

  • Yes, the seller is Amazon and not a 3rd party. Wouldn't buy a device this expensive from anyone else on Amazon. I do have that return policy which is nice but I don't live in Germany and so returns take their time from Finland. Anyway, the reason I asked is because having glanced at this thread it seems hard to find anyone with a good non-Sapphire Fenix 6/6S/6X. Is the non-Sapphire version a lost cause? Could just get the Sapphire but it'd be another 175 euros just for a better chance at a black screen (as otherwise I'd prefer the non-Sapphire version). The price I'm paying for the non-Sapphire is already higher than I'd like.
