Did a trail run today in unknown territory. I have map as a screen defined.
Maybe stupid question, but how can I pause my run and look up something on the map? When I press „Start“, my run is paused and I can not navigate to the map.

thanks. Found it out by now. When pausing, pressing up button for a long time works. Then scroll down to Navigation and there you have all the options. When finished, move backwards multiple times with…
When paused, you can use lap/back button to go back to data screens and map (if you set it to be data screen). On note though - you can't use pan/zoom option when viewing map.
One final note: This is also the reason why I'm one of the guys who asked for the possibility to disable the lap-button. I more than once accidentally created additional laps when doing this "going back…
I too was wondering if there was way to do this. Unfortunately, auto pause causes an issue with my Stryd and it's not an option for me and if I understand the OP correctly, auto pause wouldn't help anyway. While I'm out running or cycling, I would like use the around me feature of the maps to stop somewhere for lunch. (I'm lying. It's for a beer and not lunch). I can't figure out a way of doing so if I'm in an activity. I think the OP wants to use the maps in a similar way.
Thanks. I hate Autopause since my first Garmin. Too often paused when I did not stop but got simply slow.

It is ok, but would be a lot easier if zooming/panning on the map screen would simply pause the run (configurable) and going back with lap key would resume.
Perfect. Thanks for the info.

Bane, thanks. This works also! And with a long press of up on the map screen the menu for navigation like zoom/pan comes up. Leave it with two times lap button and you are back at the pause screen and select continue.

Would be even better to have a third button on the right.
