Distance on treadmill (with HRM Tri) is way off with SW 2.7

Hey there,

with SW 2.5/2.4 the distance my FR945 with the HRM Tri showed after a treadmill workout was pretty accuraty (max. 5% overall deviation.. so a 2.4km treadmill run showed me somewhere around 2.3 to 2.5km)

Since SW 2.7 the distance shown is beyond accurate (same workout with same speed/incline on treadmill shows only about 1.3km instead)

Has anyone experienced the same behaviour since the update?

Thanks!

not sure if this is what you are talking about, but even after I use the "Save & Calibrate" feature the watch is registering almost twice the distance as the treadmill.  Two miles on the watch, only one on the treadmill.

  • I use Stryd on my treadmill with my FR945, and it’s extremely accurate.

  • I had this problem, and started a thread about it a while ago. My stride length was very long, varying from 1.3 to 2 meters, and this of course affects the distance calculated. If you examine the charts for your stride length, you would probably see that they are not flat, and that there are missing points on the chart.
Take a look at the stride length chart on this run: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3971424252

I "solved" it by installing the beta 2.72. It did the trick for a couple of runs. The chart showed a relatively more flat curve, with more points on the chart. I did a couple of shorter runs, just to re calibrate, and on the last run I was only off by approx 40 meters over a 1.2 km run. Fixed I thought.
Here is a chart with more points on it: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3974890283

The last time I was on the treadmill, /https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4023719160
it was way off again, but this time the stride length was only about .07 meters. I know I have a stride length of about 0.95 to 1.0 meters. This clearly is a bug that was introduced in the 2.70 version. I think that when I installed the 2.72 beta, I reset something in the watch, that made it work for a couple of days.

I borrowed my kids foot pod, and got on the treadmill again with it (yes I know, it really should be calibrated for me) and got this: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4023787765,
0.95 to 1.01 in stride length.

Conclusion. With foot pod, correct stride length, without incorrect stride length.

This night I got the 2.80 update over my phone, so I will try it out later this day and see how it works out.

Edit: I tried it out with both of my HRM-RUN heart rate chest straps, the old black one, and the new red one.
