Duration field for activities longer than 1hr

This is a surprising irritation; no matter how I define a 'Duration' field in an activity screen the left hand side (hours) is truncated.

I've tried

  • Four field data screen (wide top and bottom) with duration in the lower section
  • Three field screen with duration in the middle section

In both cases the font in the 945 is large enough that the left hand digit is chopped off.

Is there some magic setting or layout I'm missing?  I'd rather not use a precious custom data field just to fix rendering.

Cheers

Tony

as long as I am using Garmin watches, the hour marker is above the minutes

or am I missing your point Slight smile

  • I think this is something different - I like to have a data field that shows the total duration of the activity, not lap time or similar.

On my 735XT that was easy, I have a four-field data screen with duration at the top and distance at the bottom, with pace and either power or HR splitting the middle.

The font used for duration allowed hours, minutes & seconds to be shown and to fit into the width of the screen, on the 945 the font is always too big to show the hours as soon as I go over 60 minutes

    thank you, I see now

Garmin made a layout incompatibility Wink

Yo can tell Garmin about it, quickest by emailing the forerunner beta team

no harm in going this route, bet you it will be quicker

what is holding you back if I may ask

    when power consumption, negligible

I guess, the CIQ hardware is already consuming power

  • Are you sure you aren't just missing the fact that it puts the hours in a little tiny font in the upper left corner of the field?  Here is what it should look like for 1:04:06.

  • Thanks for the suggestion.

I use one CIQ field for Stryd, and another for a multiple-detailed-stats single field, one of those would have to go if I used a field for better rendering of time.

  • Maybe ... thanks for the tip.

I'll take a look when I go out today, and get screenshots if I remember

UPDATE: I started a treadmill activity, the tiny '1' is exactly what I was mis-interpreting as a truncated display (blame my middle-aged eyes).

  • I'm actually not a big fan of the small hours.  It's nice to have the bigger main digits, but I think I'd rather have them a bit smaller and show a full size hours.  Maybe you are supposed to have a reasonable idea of how many hours you are out there, so just seeing that there is a symbol there should be enough.  The number font digits keep getting wider and wider with the newer devices, so they can fit fewer and fewer in.
