How to use ClimbPro

I have been using my 945 for about 6 weeks now and it's my first Garmin device (I used to be a loyal Suunto customer). I can easily say I am quite happy with my device but there is one thing that really annoys me. Every time I create a course on Connect (either by doing it from scratch on the map or by importing gpx files created elsewhere) I get unreasonable elevation gain and loss values (overestimated by 20-30% at least) which is extremely annoying because

1) I have to create the courses on other websites if I want to have a reasonable idea of the elevation gain/loss and then import them to Connect

2) the ClimbPro function is totally useless because it's based on Connect data

Any idea on  how to fix this?

Thank you!

Not answering you, but I 100% agree.  ClimbPro is the MAIN reason I upgraded from my Fenix 3 to to 945.  And ClimbPro has been a disappointment 90% of the time.  Usually, the worst part is: the watch will show very slight grade increases as "Climbs" but 0.5+ mi stretches of 4+% grade climbs as not a "Climb".  Also, most of the routes I select get shown as "no climbs" along route, which is usually not true.  Usually my mentally is "x feature is better than no feature" but ClimbPro needs a lot of improvements!

  • I usually do only quite large climbs because of the area I live in, so I don't have your "climbs recognition" problems. But regarding my question: when you create a course on connect is the elevation gain/loss reasonable or not?

  • i ran into this problem since i tried out the new routes sync feature from strava and komoot

    https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/05/garmin-launches-strava-komoot-route-sync-works-on-devices-a-decade-old.html

courses that go from connect to the watch no matter where they are coming from are having absurd elevation values, making climb pro unusable for me.

workaround: if i get the course via the komoot connect iq app onto the watch, the values are correct and i can use climbpro just fine. i also have this elevation issue on my edge 520, so there seems to be a general algorithm problem at garmin pushing the data onto the device/recalculation wise.

  • The other workaround is to use the IQ App Strava Routes.
Even the newly introduced easy sync with Strava which you mentioned unfortunately goes through Connect and messes up all the data.

So the only two solutions are Komoot or Strava Routes.
Frankly, it is embarrassing that Garmin cannot get the elevation data correct.
