Intensive run, zero anaerobic effect???

Today, I went for a run in the hills and tracked it with my 945's Running activity profile. I was wearing my HRM-TRI strap. It was a really intensive workout with lots of up and down running. Despite, the watch says that the anaerobic effect is 0.0!!! It is impossible. Usually, my runs are more relaxed and even if I only run 1-2 easy kilometers, it results in 0.1-0.5 anaerobic effect. So I can't believe the ZERO value for my last run, which was really intensive.

I have a guess why the watch shows 0.0. Before the cooldown phase I stopped the activity and after some seconds I started it again. Then I stopped and saved it. Is it possible that the watch calculated the anaerobic effect only for those very last few minutes when the activity was resumed? However, the aerobic effect is 3.2 so I'm a bit confused.

Have you experienced the same?

  • I forgot to mention that the Garmin Connect app shows for both the aerobic and anaerobic effects 3.2. However if I go into the details and tap the effects, then the anaerobic effect is 0.0 again!

Here you can analyze the recorded activity:

My 2 cents....Your activity looks like a fine aerobic type.

Look at your HR zone's, your constant HR and your LTHR value ?

    Yes, this is possible.

You can have a look at your anaerobic and aerobic TE values after uploading your fit file here ... fit2tcx.runalyze

  • I have the same doubt. When I do short intervals of 400 m, I would expect a high anaerobic effect and alow aerobic effect. But usually I have a aerobic effect of 3-4 , and anaerobic effect is often hardly 1. The same happens with intervals of 1 km, but with this type of interval the anaerobic effect sometimes reaches 1,9, and the aerobic is usually 3 or 4.

When doing runs  with some intense sprint at the end, usually anaerobic effect is zero like you. The aerobic effect is 3 or 4 and I can see that the run was intense because the type of benefit is not "base" but " tempo" or "v02max".

In the training status Garmin says that my anaerobic load is low and recommends to do some short and intense activity. But I really don't know wich activity I can do with a high anaerobic effect. What is more anaerobic of intervals?
