Low heat acclimation after 2+ months

During springtime I was convinced that I was having a difficult time with heat this year.  2 months ago I upgraded my Fenix to a 945 and found my gut feeling seemed to be validated by a very low heat acclimation number.  Now after 2+ months into summer and my 945, the highest heat acclimation number I have seen has been in the mid-20s.  Following recommendations from other posts, I synch to my phone before each run, and have always carried my phone (connected) for safety reasons.

In typical Garmin and Firstbeat form, the algorithm description is pretty vague.  What can be going on as a root cause for my low heat acclimation number?  I'm worried I may have other issues in play.

  • Torille! :D Managed to get 60% after Kopparnäs Coast Trail and now it's cold again.

Maybe last year it was possible, at least I felt good running in heat, but unfortunately didn't have these metrics then :D

  • Yeah I bike in the hottest part of the day as well (almost always 90+ degrees F) and it doesn't appear to factor into the calculation at all.

What do you care about heat acclim. when you live in such conditions anyway? Acclimation is to get your physiology adapt to unfamiliar conditions. Unless you suddenly train in much hotter temps or humid climates, or at higher altitude than what your body is "acclimated" to, there's no use in that function in the first place.

I remember reading that the watch/GC pulls weather data once a day (in the morning, maybe because that's when they expect you to workout?), so when you train later that day in full heat, the heat acclim. function takes the morning reading into account.

  • I agree.  I get numbers from 100% to 20%, and I don't see any correlation with what I'm doing or the temperature.  I can't use the data..

  • Checked and the temperatures on the map seem to be correct (or close). At least the Heat Acclimation on the watch give 1 day history...

  • Here in Cleveland OH (USA) it has been close to 90 degreed F (32 degrees C) and humid for over a month.  Warmer than usual, but consistent.

  • I wish Garmin and Firstbeat would publish their algorithms or at least give more detail on what the equations are based on.  I understand they are proprietary and Firstbeat's primary business, but I'm a numbers geek and would enjoy understanding more how states are derived.
